The mere sight of a cockroach in your home is a truly unpleasant experience. These incredibly resilient insects are not only visually repulsive, but they also carry dangerous bacteria. Since they breed rapidly throughout the entire year, your goal should be to make your home completely "inhospitable" to them.

Before you panic, implement these 6 simple, everyday tips to block their path:

1. Find and Seal the Cracks
Cockroaches rarely use the front door. They typically sneak in through microscopic cracks in walls, gaps along baseboards, spaces around plumbing pipes and even through the bathroom floor drain! Locate these entry points and seal them immediately with silicone caulk and for the bathroom drain use a plastic cap.

2. Ditch the Cardboard Boxes
This is a risk we often ignore. Cardboard boxes from moving or deliveries are among cockroaches' favorite hiding spots, as they use them to lay their eggs. Recycle paper packaging and cardboard boxes as soon as they are empty.

3. No More Unwashed Dishes
The kitchen is their primary target. Food scraps left on plates act as a powerful magnet. Make it a strict habit to wash your dishes promptly and never leave them sitting in the sink overnight.

4. Keep the Floors Spotless
Even microscopic crumbs that you can't see with the naked eye are a feast for insects. Sweep and mop your floors (especially in the kitchen) at least twice a week to remove any food residue.

5. Don't Let the Trash Overflow
The kitchen garbage bin is the ultimate paradise of bacteria and food for a cockroach. Make sure to use a trash can with a tight-fitting lid and take your garbage out frequently.

6. Fix Plumbing Leaks
Cockroaches can survive for weeks without food, but only a few days without water! Instantly repair any leaky plumbing and get into the habit of wiping down your kitchen and bathroom sinks so no stagnant water is left overnight.

When is it Time to Call the Professionals?
All the tips above work perfectly as preventive measures. However, if you have already spotted cockroaches in your space, it means a colony has been established. In this case, Spiticare takes action! We highly recommend professional Pest Control twice a year (ideally in September and April, when outbreaks are most intense). We use completely safe and approved sprays and specialized bait gels that eliminate the nest at its root.
